Marcus Whitfield is the Lead Editor at b3i Intelligence, where he is responsible for the research methodology behind every ranking the platform publishes. He has spent more than fifteen years writing about and analysing the businesses that power East Anglia's economy, from family-run accountancy practices to the region's largest commercial law firms.

He began his career in regional business journalism, covering company news, mergers, and the professional-services sector across Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, and Cambridgeshire. That beat gave him a ground-level view of how local firms actually win and keep clients, and a healthy scepticism of the gap between a polished website and a practice that genuinely delivers.

At b3i, Marcus designed the framework used to assess firms: verified accreditations, depth of sector specialism, client-reputation signals, longevity, and transparency. He personally reviews each "best of" ranking before it is published, cross-checking firm credentials against the relevant regulator registers and Companies House, and revisits listings as firms merge, grow, rebrand, or change hands.

He is a firm believer that a ranking only earns trust when it cannot be bought. b3i accepts no payment for placement, and Marcus treats every listing as editorial work, held to the same standard he applied as a reporter. Where the evidence changes, the ranking changes.
